What can cause black mold?

Black mold or toxic mold typically occurs when building materials stay in a heavily wet or saturated state for a long period of time. Leaks and flooding that goes un-detected are the main culprits in creating an environment for black mold. The addition of a hot, stuffy environment will also cause black mold to colonize at a much more rapid pace.

If you suspect a black mold problem on your property, you need professional help. First Call 24/7 understands how to remediate your property without spreading existing black mold spores throughout the property.

Cleaning up Black Mold

When you reach out to First Call 24/7 our team of technicians will arrive immediately to examine the level of black mold damage. They are trained to look in areas that may not be obvious to the naked eye. They will mark the affected areas, and then develop a remediation plan that will fit your needs.

First Call 24/7 has adopted a specific remediation process that we follow for each and every project. Even though each mold situation is unique, our process covers any black mold remediation situation.

  • Step 1: Contain mold spores

When our technicians arrive, they will identify they key areas where mold is present. They will then get to work building containment systems using plywood and poly. These containment rooms will ensure that black mold spores will not spread to other parts of the home.

In addition to plywood and poly, we use a HEPA negative air machine to keep the mold spores contained in the assigned area. The HEPA filter also serve as a guard against mold spores spreading back into the atmosphere.

  • Step 2: Remove any damaged materials

At this point, any building porous building materials are removed. This includes ceiling tiles, sheetrock, carpet or carpet padding.

  • Step 3: Mold Clean up

Once the environment is ready, our technicians will spray down the area to make it easier to clean the mold. This way the mold spores will not release into the environment as easily. We have several different chemicals and cleaning agents designed to clean mold. When these are applied, they kill and remove any existing mold.

  • Step 4: Apply a Mold Inhibiting Solution

After the mold is cleaned up, we will apply a mold-inhibitor to prevent any future mold growth.

  • Step 5: Use a Wet/Dry HEPA vacuum

Once the cleaning solutions and mold-inhibitor has dried, we go over the cleaned area with a HEPA vacuum. The HEPA vacuum prevents any existing mold spores from re-entering the environment.

  • Step 6: Proper Disposal of Contents

Once the area is cleaned and affected contents bagged and sealed, our technicians will safely and properly dispose of the molded contents. This way, all of the mold spores are contained and will not be spread in the removal.
